Welcome to the SENResource.com Blog

This blog is for teachers, parents, and carers working with children who have special educational needs. If you're looking for practical ideas that actually translate to real life, you're in the right place.

We write about what actually happens in classrooms and homes - the messy bits, the breakthroughs, the strategies that work, and the ones that don't. This isn't about perfect lesson plans or idealized scenarios. It's about the reality of supporting children with complex needs, and doing it in a way that respects who they are.

What We Cover

Our posts dig into the practical side of SEN support. That means topics like:

  • Setting up sensory-friendly spaces that don't require a massive budget or complete room overhaul
  • Managing challenging behaviour without resorting to outdated methods or losing your mind in the process
  • Writing IEPs and support plans that are actually useful, not just paperwork exercises
  • Creating genuinely inclusive classrooms where every child can participate
  • Supporting neurodivergent children - whether they're autistic, have ADHD, dyslexia, or other learning differences
  • Looking after your own wellbeing when the work is demanding and relentless

Real Stories, Real Practice

As the blog develops, we'll be sharing stories from actual classrooms and support settings. These won't be sanitized case studies. They'll be honest accounts of what happened, what we tried, what worked, and what fell flat.

We'll explore what inclusive practice looks like when you're juggling thirty students with vastly different needs, limited resources, and about seventeen competing priorities. We'll talk through the tricky bits - navigating assessments, advocating for support, dealing with inconsistent funding, and working within systems that weren't designed with neurodivergent children in mind.

We'll also write about involving young people in decisions about their own learning and support. They know what helps them and what doesn't. We should be listening.

How We Approach Things

We try to keep the jargon to a minimum. When we do use technical terms, we'll explain them properly. We don't claim to have all the answers - SEN is complex, every child is different, and what works brilliantly for one might not work at all for another.

What we can offer is honesty. We'll tell you when something's difficult, when the research is unclear, or when we've tried something that completely backfired. We believe that's more useful than pretending everything has a neat solution.

This space is meant to feel approachable. Ask questions. Disagree with us if something doesn't match your experience. Tell us what topics you'd like us to tackle. We're building this with you, not at you.

What's Next

We're just getting started, but we've got plenty planned. New posts will come regularly, covering everything from communication strategies to managing transitions, from understanding educational psychology reports to creating accessible learning materials.

If there's something specific you're struggling with or curious about, let us know. The best content comes from real questions and real challenges.

Thanks for being here. We're glad you found us.
